Management

At Glengarry we take great pride in minimizing disease risk. All sheep are fully vaccinated with 6 in 1 vaccine, and we have been accredited with OJD MAP since 1998 and have vaccinated with Gudair since 2003, as recommended by our vet. We are Brucellosis Accredited free.

All sheep are drenched for internal parasites as required. Stud sheep are assessed for structural soundness to maximise their ability to grow, graze and reproduce efficiently. Any young sheep not making the grade are sold for slaughter.

Full pedigree is kept of all stud stock and lambs are weighed at birth, 3mths, 6mths, 9mths and 12mths. All lambs are scanned by an accredited Lambplan scanner at 6 months for weight, fat and muscle depth. All young stock are run in large management groups to give accurate performance information.

Stud ewes are selected for:

• structure

• a long body which is well muscled

• performance (both physical and reproductive)

• quiet temperament

• feminine

• white with clean points.

With a lambing percentage of over 150%, ewes must perform to stay in the stud. Excess ewes are sold in November.
