About Us

Spring Valley White Suffolks was originally established as Valma by Keith and Anne McLauchlan in 1985.
In 1991 Rob and I took over ownership of the stud in conjunction with my brother John McLauchlan and his wife Kerry. It was renamed K&M Whites (Keen and McLauchlan Whites to avoid confusion with the Valma Poll Dorset Stud).
This worked very well for a number of years as our properties adjoined and the running of the ewe flock and lambing was done at our property and the growing out and selling of flock rams done from John and Kerry’s.
In 1991 Rob and I sold our property and moved to our new home “Spring Valley”. We separated the stud at this point by drafting all the ewes and commenced our own operations.

It took a couple of years for us to actually separate the studs on paper (in the flock book and on Lambplan). In 2005 this was officially done with John & Kerry naming their stud “Leith” and continuing with flock number 30, and Rob and I obtaining a new flock number - 613. (Hence the graph above showing Spring Valley from 2005 onwards only).
Our White Suffolk flock is run commercially with all lambs individually recorded for birth weight, weaning weight, post weaning weight and post weaning scanning (fat and eye muscle depth).
Our flock ram clients have traditionally been specialist prime lamb producers meeting the heavy lamb markets.
In recent years many merino breeders are seeking our White Suffolk rams as they are after a good shape and birth weight for ease of lambing, white wool and lambs that can be sold as either trade lambs or can be finished prior to winter.
