Carcase & Eating Quality Benchmarking Project
White Suffolk producers have known for a long time that they can grow cracking lamb. But now both stud and commercial producers are being offered an Australian-first opportunity to see how their lamb stacks up compared to those within and outside the breed.
The Australian White Suffolk Association (AWSA) is seeking expressions of interest from stud and commercial White Suffolk breeders to be a part of a White Suffolk carcase and eating quality benchmarking project, that for the first time seeks to benchmark carcase and eating quality performance for a breed in comparison to the Australian commercial lamb industry. Read full story here.
The project aims to produce a dataset that will allow new benchmarks to be created for the White Suffolk breed. This will mean that producers can compare their lambs to whole industry benchmarks for carcase weight and IMF, and for the first time, they can also see where their lambs sit in comparison to the rest of the breed.
By sharing feedback data from your business for use in this project you will be making it possible for White Suffolks to be the first breed to benchmark against the commercial industry in this way. This information will underpin AWSA promotional and breed development activities. It will also give you insights into how well your breeding program and management systems are addressing industry standards in comparison to other White Suffolk producers for the first time.
The raw data collated and used for this project will be kept confidential. Results derived from the analysis of the dataset will only be published in an aggregated and deidentified form, unless a contributor has expressly given their permission for their data to be published. Results of analyses benchmarking individual flocks will be kept confidential and only reported back to the contributor.
