Numnuts Phase 2 research report now released. A single tool has been developed that will administer pain relief at the same time an “Elastrator” ring is applied for tail docking and castration in lambs. The outcome includes a fully ergonomic tool which can be produced in high volumes at a target price of 20-40 cents per application with minimal environmental impact. Use of the Numnuts system will permit Australian farmers to anticipate consumer and potential legislative pressures concerning animal welfare practices, and pre-empt a potential economic downturn such as the experience with mulesing.
