Luke Stephens (Technical Specialist Sheep Breeding NSW DPI) explained at the Leading Breeder conference in 2017 what the top 20% of breeders do differently compared to the bottom 20% of breeders to make more genetic gain. The same factors were common across all Merino, Terminal, Maternal and Dohne breeders. These factors were amount of pedigree, amount of data collected on more sheep and using the Breeding Values generated to make selection decisions.
